Our Year 10 Humanities classes were given a rare and valuable gift: A personal connection to the history we have been studying. Ms Tanja visited us to share her father’s firsthand recollections of growing up in war-torn Germany after the second world war.
Through her, we heard the stories her dad had passed down about their family history: The challenges, the fears, and the reality of everyday life during such a tumultuous time. We learned how her grandmother was forced to flee their family home in Eastern Prussia (now part of Poland) with her baby (Ms Tanja’s father) in her arms as the Soviet Red Army advanced in the harsh winter of 1945, mere months before the end of the war.
Ms Tanja brought these stories to life with incredible primary sources, including original family photographs, which made the period feel incredibly real and immediate.
We were completely captivated. Her presentation sparked so many insightful questions, moving our understanding beyond the textbook and into the human experience of history. It was a truly memorable and sweet treat that added a profound new layer to our learning.
A big thank you to Ms Tanja from the Year 10 girls, and a special thank you to her father for taking the time to write down his memoirs in such a captivating style, allowing Ms Tanja to share them so beautifully with us.
Our Islamic Storytime sessions for Term 3 wrapped up on Tuesday morning, 2 September 2025, with both our English and Urdu speaking groups.
The children enjoyed a fun-filled morning with their usual program of uplifting nasheeds, engaging stories, and hands-on craft activities. A special highlight was a visit to our College’s farm, where the children excitedly explored and connected with the various farm animals. Special thank you to Br Sharief for facilitating the visit.
Each child received a small gift, a pencil case with pencils to take home in celebration of the last Islamic Storytime session for the term.
We thank all the families for joining us this term and our wonderful facilitators Ms. Hina, Ms. Nabiha and Ms. Siti for making every session memorable. We look forward to welcoming you back in Term 4, inShaAllah.

Our Year 11 Food Studies students joined forces with the Year 12 Business Management cohort for a fascinating excursion to Yakult in South Dandenong.
The visit provided an invaluable opportunity for students to see classroom learning come to life, as they explored how theoretical concepts are applied in real-world contexts. From food production processes to business operations, the tour highlighted practical links between the two subjects.
We extend our sincere thanks to the Yakult tour guides for sharing their expertise and tailoring insights to both Food Studies and Business Management. A special commendation also goes to our students, whose thoughtful questions reflected their curiosity and engagement throughout the day.

It is wonderful to see members of our Al Siraat staff, led by Ms Julie Asma Ahmad, take a courageous stand in opposing the proposed waste-to-energy incinerator in Wollert.
The group is making headlines in “The Age”. You can read the full article (free access), published on 3 September 2025, here:
🚨 What’s Happening:
Cleanaway has withdrawn its original development application, but a new, expanded application is expected to be brought forward for the proposed Melbourne Energy & Resource Centre (MERC) at 510 Summerhill Road, Wollert.
Recycling Victoria has approved a cap licence to process up to 760,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste per year, doubling the original limit of 380,000 tonnes.
If built, MERC would process about 13% of Victoria’s landfill waste and generate power for around 140,000 homes, but at what cost?
🚧 Why It Matters to Our Community:
The site is just less than 8 km from ߲Ƶ, and even closer from homes in Donnybrook, Craigieburn, and Wollert, placing many schools, childcare and aged care centres, and families near this facility.
There are 59 schools within a 10 km radius of the site, and concerns have been raised about toxic emissions, heavy truck traffic, visual and environmental impacts and property value decline.
Local residents submitted 764 formal objections to the EPA, with over 99% opposing the project, and more than 6,000 people signed petitions.
🙌 How You Can Support:
- Attend future public meetings & advocacy forums: Strong attendance matters.
- Submit your views to the EPA and Victorian Government expressing your concerns and calling for a full Environmental Effects Statement.
- Share this information widely: Forward to neighbours, post in local networks, and talk to local MPs.
- Join community groups such as “” to stay informed and united.
Our voices are powerful when we stand together.
